About Do A Barrel Rolls
A small, focused reference site about one Google Search Easter egg — built around a simple rule: every factual claim gets a real source.
Why This Site Exists
Most pages about Google’s “do a barrel roll” Easter egg cover one slice of the story — the trick itself, or the meme history, or the gaming reference — and many repeat the same unverified details, including a release-date error for Star Fox 64 that shows up across several otherwise unrelated sites. We wanted one page that gets the whole story right, with sources, and a tool that’s honest about what it actually does.
How We Source and Fact-Check
Every non-obvious factual claim on this site — dates, technical details, attributions — is checked against a primary or strong secondary source before publishing, and linked wherever practical. You’ll see a small ✓ “verified” stamp next to claims with an attached source.
Where a claim is fan-made, unofficial, or extrapolated (like the multi-spin tool on our homepage, which is not part of Google’s actual product), we say so explicitly rather than letting it read as official.
We don’t speculate and present it as fact. Where something is genuinely disputed or unconfirmed (for example, an early commenter’s theory about why Google’s launch timing coincided with a viral aviation video), we flag it as speculation rather than stating it plainly.
Correction Policy
If you find an error anywhere on this site — a wrong date, a broken source link, a mischaracterized fact — we want to know about it and will correct it. Pages that are substantively updated will have their date reflected in the page itself.
Authorship
This section is an open placeholder. Rather than attaching an invented name or fabricated credentials to this site’s content, we’re leaving authorship attribution honest and unfilled until there’s a real, named person or team to credit. If that’s you, this is the section to fill in.
What We Are (and Aren’t)
Do A Barrel Rolls is an independent fan reference and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google LLC, Nintendo, or any company mentioned on this site. “Google” and “Star Fox” are trademarks of their respective owners.
The spin tool on our homepage is a fan-made recreation of Google’s CSS animation, not Google’s actual product. We say this directly on every page that includes it.
